LIFE  IN  PUERTO  VALLARTA

Puerto Vallarta… with its incredible natural beauty, combined with a small-town atmosphere and the inherent warmth and friendliness of the local people, attracts foreign residents who enjoy the good life.

With a colorful blend of the old and new, the Banderas Bay region offers an unrivaled combination of simple pleasures and sophisticated charms. Fine dining restaurants, art galleries, upscale shopping centers, internet cafes and nightclubs peacefully coexist alongside taco stands, street-side vendors selling Mexican handcrafts, traditional open air markets and strolling mariachi bands.

But much of Puerto Vallarta's magic is in the hearts of her people. Vallartans are known for their hospitality and for going out of their way to welcome foreign residents. And, since the Mexican people are extremely tolerant of different lifestyles, international residents and Mexican locals can live side-by-side in harmony - provided that the expatriate can learn to be creative and adaptable.

Puerto Vallarta is an unhurried refuge for people seeking more than just beautiful beaches. Embrace the challenge of learning patience and understanding. Taking the time to "stop and smell the roses" along the road. Becoming bicultural gives us the opportunity to grow - and enjoy a more relaxed way of life.

Puerto Vallarta’s pride in its traditions is cause for colorful celebrations, processions and parades throughout the year. During the procession of the Virgin in December, and the cultural festivals of May and November, the streets are filled with music, dancing, and theater performances. Mariachi and Tequila flow in abundance amid a backdrop of traditionally dressed rodeo cowboys and elaborately woven Huichol art.

Take a tour to visit the Huichol Indians, descendents of the Aztec. They keep themselves away from modernism and technology and thus preserve their beliefs, rituals, culture, and history. Their houses still showcase the influence of the Pre-Columbian era. If you want to experience a totally new way of seeing Mexican life, you can participate in a half-day trip to their territory. Don't forget to buy a well-made handicraft in their souvenir shops.

Enjoy the festivals! You can begin at any point in Puerto Vallarta in the month of November. The weather may be turning cooler in preparation for December and small towns are brimming with festival life. The Cultural Festival is an ideal time to witness the fusion of culture and arts in native performances. Taste the delectable Mexican dishes offered to the public during the International Gourmet Festival—the annual food and wine event that has been tempting the taste buds of Banderas Bay area residents and visitors for the last 13 years. If you have a soft spot for golf, you can watch the Vallarta Cup tournaments. For film buffs, Puerto Vallarta Film Festival is a great time to grab a theater seat.

In this mixture of this fun and sun, adventure, tradition and international flair you can visit the legendary Los Arcos Amphitheater and Los Arcos National Marine Park, listen to world-class symphonies, dine with chefs from around the globe, and find art galleries to peruse.

Explore San Sebastian, tucked away in the valleys of Puerto Vallarta. This used to be one of the oldest homes of the first Mexican settlers back in 1605. Today, it is no longer a silver mining town. The best way to travel to San Sebastian is by boarding a Cessna plane. This will also give you an opportunity to see Puerto Vallarta and even the magnificent seas on aerial view. There is a new road being built from the highway to San Sebastian making access much easier. Once there you will find a charming village with a number of hotels to choose from and some fine restaurants offering French, Italian and Mexican cuisine.

Puerto Vallarta is the best choice for fun in the sun. You can enjoy some tee time, watch concerts, explore natural sceneries and old towns, or hit the beach. Puerto Vallarta is well-known for its beaches, which are conveniently integrated in with villas and hotels scattered all over town. You can enjoy different types of water activities, like parasailing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

Sometimes when you want to go have some fun and you really want it all, it's hard to find. Know the feeling? Well, it is possible to spend a completely fun-filled day on Pegaso Charters' Las Animas Adventure Park tour. Climb aboard one of Pegaso Charters’ five beautiful sailing ships for an exhilarating day on Banderas Bay. One of the sailing ships, the Elias Mann was built for a retired US Coast Guard Captain in Trinity Bay in Newfoundland, Canada in 1971, as a replica of the traditional New England Sailing Schooner. The master builders in Trinity Bay are known for building very strong and durable wooden vessels, and the Elias Mann is an excellent example.

Start the day by boarding to the warm welcome of host, Benjamin. After a briefing about the Elias Mann and some safety tips, you will set sail. After being immediately welcomed by the other crew members and saluting the captain, you are provided with a very nice continental breakfast, juice and coffee.

First stop, Los Arcos for a brief snorkeling session. The water is so clear that the fish are glowing with blues, yellows, spotted fish… such a variety. Next stop, the new Adventure Park in Las Animas. This is a must do for all ages! The new Adventure Park in Las Animas combines swinging bridges and nets to climb through with zip lines and a rock climb - sheer heaven for the adventurous! Designed for the novice or the athletic, it's a bit challenging, but the only thing sore after you have finished will be your gut from laughing and giggling. Full sails up as you head back to Vallarta. For those that may not have been on a sailing ship before, this is quite a treat.

While every destination in Mexico has something to offer visitors; romantic Puerto Vallarta delivers something for everyone: beaches on a beautiful bay, great dining, a sizzling nightlife, movie theaters, cultural events, art galleries, excellent shopping, world-class golf and tennis, activities and excursions galore, and fun, fun, fun!
